Bathing Figure - Sculpture
Market Square, Arts Centre, Worcester Boulevard, Central City
This Greening the Rubble garden entitled 'Tree Museum' showcases notable native trees to Christchurch, and was inspired by Joni Mitchell's song 'Big Yellow Taxi'.
The Museum features nine trees that formed part of the original ecosystems of central Christchurch (Kakikatea, totara and houhere ecosystems). The promotion of the trees that used to belong here, but now “lost” or locally extinct, highlights the plight or loss of these ecosystems and provides clues on what could be planted as part of the future development of the city.
Hyalite Hydroponics, Life in Vacant Spaces, Rata Foundation, Trees For Canterbury and Christchurch City Council all helped make this project a reality.
