Fanfare Sculpture

Christchurch artist Neil Dawson's Fanfare is a 25-metre tall sphere, covered in 360 spinning metal pinwheels and is one of the largest public artworks in NZ.  The sculpture has been called a "dynamic new entranceway sculpture for the city" and a "symbol of our rebirth as a city".

The artist says "It is basically just a ball with some propellers on it. It seems like such an incredibly complex thing but it is important to remember that it is a very simple thing. It responds to its environment in the wind and the sun. Every time someone looks at it from the road, it means something."
