Various locations, central city
This 1200-square-metre Greening the Rubble garden seeks to include the city's ethnic communities and their traditions, cultures and spiritual beliefs in the rebuild, while providing places to reflect and heal.
Two communities are represented at the riverside site - Pasifika (Maori and Pacific) and greater southeast Asia. Flora endemic to those regions has been planted and a whare-fale has been erected with the four corner posts carved by Lyttelton's Whakaraupo Carving Centre. Benches around the site were built by Men's Sheds. Plants and landscaping materials were mostly donated. GtR think the site is more of a "robust public park than a garden".
