The museum is one of the town's top visitor attractions. It consists of several structures of different ages & construction types, 3 of which are heritage buildings: Langlois-Eteveneaux Cottage, the old Akaroa Court House & the Custom House. Two buildings of the museum are partially open - the small exhibition gallery & shop/foyer of the main museum structure, & Langlois-Eteveneaux cottage is open to the public through viewing windows.
