25 Armagh St (c1900) is connected with a number of prominent Christchurch individuals, during its history of use as both home and business/professional/club premises. Look for architect Samuel Hurst Seager’s direct quote from the arcading of Benjamin Mountfort's Christchurch Club in the entry porch detailing. It is thought to represent both the first example in NZ of an architect paying homage to his predecessors, and an attempt to develop a distinctively NZ form of contemporary architecture from the models of the past. An older brick wing to the rear of the existing building was demolished due to earthquake damage, and a new addition is to be added. Under repair.
