The Green Lab creates urban green spaces where communities can gather and connect. We are an Ōtautahi Christchurch based charitable trust that focuses on the central city or regenerating residential communities.

Tiny Shops is a collaboration between The Green Lab, community organisation Te Whare Roimata and the Christchurch City Council, which focused on the creation of a village of ‘tiny shops’ on a vacant site in a local shopping centre on Stanmore road.

The site provides a hub for small scale local businesses and also community spaces for the community to gather and connect. The site comprises four relocatable huts,  a community garden, a children’s play area and a performance space. The project built on facilities from an earlier project in 2017, the Koha Garden, adding further public amenity, aesthetics and gathering space to encourage community connection. It also aimed to provide opportunities for local enterprise, particularly for those who lost premises post-earthquake, or those who would otherwise not have access to commercial spaces.
